Air Canada reaffirmed its commitment to diversity and inclusivity by serving as the official airline partner of the 2025 Most Inspiring Immigrants in Atlantic Canada event for the third consecutive year. The event, organized by My East Coast Experience, recognizes outstanding immigrants who have made significant contributions to their communities in the region.
A distinguished Advisory Committee, comprising prominent figures from Canada’s Atlantic provinces, selected 13 remarkable individuals as this year’s honorees. These immigrants have demonstrated excellence in leadership, community engagement, and economic development, making a lasting impact in their respective towns and cities.
The initiative aligns with the Government of Canada’s vision to foster diversity and support skilled immigrants. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Atlantic Canada has become a key region for newcomer settlement, contributing to population growth and economic resilience. The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), a government-led initiative, actively helps skilled workers and international graduates establish themselves in the region.
In addition to recognizing community leaders, Air Canada also supported five international students through a $2,000 bursary awarded as part of the Student Bursary Program. Students were selected based on personal essays showcasing their leadership and positive contributions to their new communities.
This initiative echoes the federal government’s commitment to supporting international students, as highlighted in policies outlined by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Programs like the Canada Student Grants and Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) empower international students to thrive academically and professionally.
Additionally, Air Canada sponsors other multicultural initiatives, such as OneWorld Festival – GlobalFest in Calgary, celebrating Canada’s rich cultural diversity. Newcomers can also explore Canada through the Canoo App, developed by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, which offers exclusive travel benefits to permanent residents and new citizens.
Air Canada’s ongoing support for multiculturalism aligns with the government’s vision of fostering an inclusive society. Canada’s Multiculturalism Act reinforces the importance of recognizing and valuing cultural diversity as a national strength.
Eric Lauzon, Director of Community Relations and Partnerships at Air Canada, reflected on his experience as part of the jury:
Through its sponsorships and community initiatives, Air Canada continues to elevate economic development, celebrate cultural diversity, and empower newcomers, making Canada a welcoming place for all.
